Surf Expo got underway Thursday in Orlando in what has been an interesting trade show season.

While large brands such as Vans and O'Neill attended, many other large apparel brands were not at the show, including Quiksilver, Hurley, Billabong, Volcom, and RVCA. We saw lots of retailers in attendance who told us they had more time to look for new brands to carry and to spend more quality time with some of the smaller brands they currently stock.

We saw several very busy booths including Salty Crew, Sun Bum, Olukai, Corkcicle, Stance and Vissla. Surfboard brands were also quite busy.

A theme we heard from several retailers is that they are on the hunt for the new, especially when it comes to accessories.

We have photos from the first day of Surf Expo in our slideshow.
