Slowtide Leads Industry Towel Market
We caught up with Slowtide Co-Founder Kyle Spencer at Agenda Show last week.
The brand is leading the towel market in the industry, and works hard to stay ahead.
Kyle had a positive outlook on Agenda being smaller than usual, saying it gave them a chance to speak with retailers who otherwise might have overlooked a smaller brand.
“At the last Agenda we landed REI,” Kyle said. “It was an opportunity we might not have gotten if we didn’t come here. We decided to come back because we wouldn’t want to miss out on another great retailer.”
Slowtide is now carried in 15 REI doors, in addition to fashion retailers such as Urban Outfitters and Free People, as well as many surf accounts including Jack’s Surfboards, Huntington Surf & Sport and Proof Lab.
The brand has bath and beach towels in a variety of shapes and sizes and has expanded to ponchos and blankets.
Their newest product is a polar fleece blanket for Holiday 2018.
“We felt this would be a good addition to the holiday collection because towels are more for spring and summer,” Kyle said. “People can bring it to the beach or lay it in their truck for their boards.”
The blanket will retail for $40 and has already gotten a great response.
The brand works with a range of artists and surfers each season to create fun, unique towels.
“The Clark Little towel is a carry over from last season,” Kyle said. “That one sold quickly and did great for us.”
Slowtide is also releasing a collaboration with Madewell in the upcoming weeks that will be sold exclusively at Madewell stores.
The Slowtide team decided to stay around for the Agenda Festival where they sold merchandise and raffled off a towel every hour.
The raffle built a lot of excitement around the booth and Kyle and his Co-Founder Dario Phillips happily talked to the kids all day.
“It is cool to talk to the kids and connect with the next generation of consumers,” Kyle said.
