World class speakers and events on tap for the 2016 SIA Snow Show
SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the snow sports industry’s member-owned trade association, along with the entire snow sports industry, is in full countdown mode for the 2016 SIA Snow Show. With 110 new and debuting exhibitors, inspiring keynotes from world-class thought leaders, and a full week of can’t-miss events, the snow sports community will come together at the 62nd annual Snow Show for trend spotting, business development, education, networking, and immersion in the business of SNOW.
18,000 snow sports retailers, reps, media, and manufacturers, including 1,000 brands and 530 total exhibitors and a mix of athletes and industry professionals, will be in attendance at the Snow Show, the largest global snow sports trade event. SIA’s daylong workshop offerings at Industry + Intelligence will kick off the event on Wednesday, January 27 and the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest (Feb. 1-2) will round out the gathering at Copper Mountain Resort following the Show.
“It’s great to be at the Show and see all the love for the industry year after year, and the continued enthusiasm of this community. What other venue presents this opportunity? None!” commented Deno Dudanake, Northeastern Sales Rep, Rossignol.
After a successful debut in 2015, Industry + Intelligence returns on January 27th with a new collaboration between NSAA and SIA, bringing a comprehensive view of the industry’s data and trends. The complimetary lunch and keynote presentation will be moderated by professional skier and mountaineer Chris Davenport and features Bryan Johnston, head of global marketing at GoPro. The educational day, included in Snow Show registration, will offer 20 sessions covering State of the Industry, Manufacturing & Production, Business Development, Marketing & Social Media, Specialty Retailer Series, plus the Shmooz job fair from Malakye. Industry + Intelligence is presented by Blue Acorn & Bronto.
“I think Industry + Intelligence is great. The information shared helps everyone make good decisions and feel prepared not just for the Show, but for the future as well,” said Wendy Carey, CFO of Seirus Innovation and SIA Board Member
The 2016 Snow Show gets off to an exciting start at the Opening Ceremony and complimentary breakfast at 7:30am on January 28th, with a keynote presentation by a global leader in the issue of climate change. The speaker, who will be announced early next week, is a personality not to be missed. The keynote will address how climate change effects the industry. The complimentary breakfast and Opening Ceremony begins at 7:30am on Thursday, January 28th in the Mile High Ballroom of the Colorado Convention Center.
New for this year, the Snow Show floor will feature neighborhoods of like-minded categories and brands called The Collectives. These areas give buyers and media an immersive view and a community feel within the key categories of Ski, Snowboard, Nordic, Backcountry, Style and Women’s. The Collectives curated sections at SIAsnowshow.com help buyers prep for the Show with an overview of data, trends and insights for each category.
Within each Collective neighborhood are the highly popular Category Specific Exhibits: Backcountry Experience, [email protected], Rental World/Backshop & Uniform Gallery, Nordic Center and OIWC Women’s Lounge. Here buyers and media will find events and seminars, as well as an overview of trends, brands and key pieces for these important market segments.
“It’s the most productive show for me, not just because I’m seeing all the lines, but also because it’s an opportunity to interact with other dealers across the country, to get a feel for trends and just to see what’s new out there. The social part of it is also great, it’s so nice to see all the people we only get to see once a year,” commented Parker Rice, buyer, Equipe Sport, Stratton, VT.
“The Show is so much more than just a product presentation, it’s a true breeding ground for ideas and inspiration. The forums, the marketing information, and the opportunities for retailers like me to network with each other has become a major feature for me,” said Teddy Schiavoni, owner of Summit Ski Shop, Framingham, MA
Sourcing Snow returns to the Show floor for 2016, showcasing over 30 top snow sports raw materials manufacturers and featuring the latest innovations in performance materials and components. Production-oriented seminars will take place in Sourcing Snow, giving designers and production personnel a one-stop shop to view trends and gain inspiration for their designs.
“Our merchandisers, product line managers, designers, raw materials and production personnel all attend and make appointments for Sourcing Snow each year. It serves as a critical touchpoint with our overseas vendors to finalize developments with our current partners, as well as a chance to meet new potentials,” said Robert Yturri, SVP Global Sales, Product and Brand Management, Obermeyer
Events, clinics and seminars abound throughout the four-day Snow Show. The addition this year of the I+I Live seminar space brings panel discussions and educational opportunities to the Show floor, with over 50 presentations throughout the Show.

Coming to the Show reinvigorates your business ideas, your model, the things you want to sell, the things you’ve never thought of doing before,” said KC Neal, owner, Castle Bike and Ski, Castle Rock, CO
The Show wouldn’t be complete without the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, held in conjunction with the Western Winter Sports Representatives Association (WWSRA) Rocky Mountain Demo and the Nordic Demo in partnership with Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA). Over 120 brands will showcase their 16.17 models of skis, snowboards, boots, poles, helmets and accessories for buyers and media, allowing attendees to compare the products they saw at the Snow Show side-by-side on the snow. In addition, the 2016 Demo’s annual Uphill/Downhill Challenge once again will gather “the weak, strong and the thirsty” to help raise funds for The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
“We love being at the demo because it’s so important to get face-to-face time and build relationships. There’s no better way to do it than on the mountain,” said Dave Bestwick, BC Sales Rep for Never Summer, Flux and 3CS.
