Press release:

June 30, 2015 – Compton, CA

This Fourth of July, Matix Clothing is pleased to present a local tradition – the 41st Annual Hermosa Beach Ironman “Triathlon” in Hermosa Beach, California. What began over 40 years ago as an unsanctioned and illegal race for the toughest men in the South Bay, still slightly more than a rogue event, has become world renowned.

Not to be confused by the swim, bike, run Ironman in Hawaii, the HB Ironman weeds out the pack through a series of events more appropriate for a Southern Californaia Fourth of July event. Entrants first run a mile, then grab their surfboard to paddle another mile and end the third leg by pounding a 6-pack of beer. The field has grown to over 1,000 entrants and consists of men and women, 21+ from around the globe.

“Matix was born in the Southbay 17 years ago,” explains Mike West, Westlife/Matix CEO and HB Ironman alumni. ”We’re stoked to participate in this community tradition, just in time for summer fun.”

All entrants receive a commemorative HB Ironman t-shirt, produced by Matix. While some are in it to win it, most entrants sign up for pure fun and the chance to say that they too once completed the HB Ironman. Signups will be held on July 3 at Standing Room in Hermosa and the race will begin on July 4 at 9 AM sharp near 28th St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. The rules are simple BYO board, beers and thirst for fun. Race will be followed by a special musical guess. All proceeds will be given back to local charities in the form of donations.
