AGENDA Emerge brings out

Press release:

January 6th 2015 (LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA) – Tuesday evening’s 4th annual AGENDA Emerge conference was held at the Long Beach Convention Center following a successful, two-day Agenda trade show. The 850+ seat, sold out Emerge event presented over 3 hours of conversation and Ted-style talks with some of the industry’s most influential and iconic leaders: Bob + Ryan Hurley, C.R. Stecyk III, Lyndon Cormack, Mike Ness, Shepard Fairey, and Tinker Hatfield.

The night started with Lyndon Cormack, co-founder of Herschel Supply Co., giving a modest yet in-depth look at how and why he and his brother, Jamie, started the brand, noting that the most important part is honoring one’s ideas and maintaining a ‘can – do’ attitude.

Following Cormack, Ryan Hurley, Creative Director of Hurley, took the stage as host and moderator and brought out his father and founder of Hurley, Bob Hurley. The father and son duo spoke in conversation about Bob’s journey to becoming a brand behemoth that is now under the Nike umbrella and sits at the top of the surf and skate brands.

Following Bob Hurley were C.R. Stecyk III, skate icon and photographer, and Mike Ness of the punk band Social Distortion. Stecyk spoke of his early days skating and photographing the Z-Boys’ late Jay Adams as well as his legendary skate graphics while Ness discussed what it took to maintain a lifestyle that went against the odds yet remained authentic and proved successful.

The most buzzed about moment of the night came from Tinker Hatfield, who, upon being asked by Ryan Hurley if the infamous Nike MAG sneaker immortalized by Michael J. Fox in ‘Back to the Future Part II’ was in fact happening for 2015 (the year they’re worn in the movie), noted that he and his team were in fact working on the power lace system. He joked that there are ‘still 11 and two-thirds months left in 2015,’ alluding to the task at hand being something they’ve been trying to make happen for awhile in the Nike labs.  See a sneak peek of the conversation over at Hypebeast’s Instagram: https://instagram.com/p/xjTQIbxek8/

OBEY GIANT founder and artist Shepard Fairey closed out the night, giving fans an inside look at his iconic ‘HOPE’ campaign and how he has managed to effortlessly combine the DIY counterculture of punk rock and skateboarding with pop-culture and political messaging.
