Press release:

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (September 19, 2014) – In response to the situation in Los Cabos following Hurricane Odile, the SIMA Humanitarian Fund has accelerated their grant to longtime beneficiary Waves for Water with an immediate disbursement of $5,000 in response to the recent storm that struck the tip of the Baja peninsula.

Hurricane Odile, a Category 3 storm, hit Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo causing massive destruction throughout the region. Waves for Water, led by former pro surfer Jon Rose, has mobilized an emergency response team to help the areas that have seen the most damage.

The SIMA Humanitarian Fund is giving $5,000 to immediately support Waves for Water and is encouraging the surf community to follow suit. For every dollar donated to the Odile Relief, past SIMA Humanitarian Fund President Fernando Aguerre will match the donations up to $5,000. Donations to benefit Hurricane Odile relief can be donated directly at www.wavesforwater.org/project/odile or through www.stokesme.org.

“Cabo and the surrounding area is a key area for the surf community and the surf industry,” said Ross Garrett, SIMA Humanitarian Fund President. “The situation there is much worse than people might imagine, and Jon and his team will be able to make an immediate and lasting impact on the recovery.”
