Junior star Taylor Clark joins

Press release:

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, USA – (July 10, 2014) – Billabong has announced the addition of top California junior surfer Taylor Clark to its surf team.  Clark, 18, gained national recognition by becoming both the 2013 U18 US Champion and the 2013 NSSA Open Men’s Champ. Hailing from Encinitas, Clark is a homegrown, high performance product of San Diego’s North County — a fertile environment for world-class surfers.

The addition of Taylor Clark has already made waves on an international level throughout the Billabong organization.

“I am quite happy to welcome Taylor Clark to the Billabong family,” said Billabong founder Gordon Merchant from Australia. “Taylor is a solid young surfer, with a progressive repertoire and an accomplished resume. He will fit in quite well with the Billabong team.”

Clark will continue to compete in junior pro events and build his seed ranking on the ASP’s World Qualifying Series level.  He will also test his mettle in the trials for the Billabong Pro Tahiti WCT event at the notoriously heavy surf break of Teahupoo in August.

“I’m so stoked to be joining the Billabong family!” said Clark.  “They have such an amazing team, I’m super excited to be a part of it.  I’m really amped for what’s to come!”

Clark is wasting no time getting up to speed. His first official duty will be to join the rest of Billabong’s top junior surfers departing this week for a trip to French Polynesia filming for the new Surfing Magazine grom movie.

“We’re beyond thrilled to add Taylor to our talented roster of athletes,” said Billabong USA Team Manager Micah Byrne.  “Taylor is a rare breed of surfer who can not only perform in heats, but also in front of a camera, and he is a favorite among photographers.  With a strong support system at home, and the drive that he has inside, I can’t wait to see what he does in the near future.”
