Firewire releases the Vanguard model surfboard in partnership with Daniel (Tomo) Thomson

Press release:

Firewire is excited to announce the release of the Vanguard model: the first board to come out of our joint efforts with Daniel Thomson of Tomo Surfboards.

The Vanguard represents a dramatic re-definition of high-performance surfboard design. Daniel explains, “The outline of the Vanguard is the foundation and driving force of this highly innovative surfboard. Ultra parallel lines allow the design to be ridden smaller and narrower than previously considered functional. This is achieved by maintaining ideal rider volume with balanced foam distribution. The parallel outline reduces drag, thus increasing dynamic planing lift yielding more speed via less water resistance.”

Daniel continues, “The surfer will experience exceptional freedom and planing speed right from the get go. The very short nature of the design allows the rider to completely dominate the board while the straightened rail line allows for effortless and precise turns and direct transitions.”

“After riding my Vanguard for the past 4 months, I’m amazed at the design’s overall performance and versatility across a wide range of conditions and ease-of-use for the everyday surfer,” commented CEO Mark Price, “there is no question in my mind that Dan is at the forefront of modern surfboard design and combining his design talents with Firewire’s unique materials and flex characteristics has us all incredibly excited about the Firewire/Tomo partnership going forward.”

Although a high performance machine, the Vanguard has a very stable nature, and is naturally fast while efficient at paddling and catching waves. This makes it an ideal quiver addition for a broad spectrum of surfers. The Vanguard is currently delivering to retail in Firewire’s proven White Rapidfire technology in AUS and US markets. Additional markets to follow.

“Firewire believes that minor refinements to the shape of today’s modern surfboards can only produce incremental performance benefits. Exponential improvements in performance require the ongoing development of new materials, construction methods and radical shape, which, in turn, will fuel new design success. In addition, with the increased eco-consciousness of today’s consumer, Firewire is constantly refining our raw materials to decrease the environmental impact of our boards. Currently our surfboards emit only 2% of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that conventional polyurethane boards do throughout their lifespan.”
