Sun Bum, a Florida based sun care company, took their “Bum Rush Tour” on the road this past weekend, surprising three Southern California beaches with their unannounced surfing contests. The three events took place in Oceanside, Huntington Beach, and Malibu with the local winners each receiving a check for $1,000 dollars for just doing what they love to do.

JD MacFaden, surfing his hometown break in Oceanside, took the first 1k prize early Saturday morning as the Sun Bum truck and crew invaded the beach around dawn. “I’m still shocked!” JD laughed, “I’m gonna use the money to go to Costa Rica to meet up with my dad and surf.”

Later in the afternoon the Sun Bum crew made a second ambush stop at the world famous Huntington Beach Pier, surprising a giant crowd and stoking out local surfer Jerry Lehman. “I’ve seen the ape before, but never knew what it was, until now,” Jerry responded, when asked if he had heard of the Sun Bum brand before winning the event. “It was pretty close between a couple guys in the line up,” explained Dustin Smith, Sun Bum’s event director, “until Jerry pulled off a sick backside snap, just as the 15 minute session ended”.

On Sunday, at Surfrider, Malibu, longboarders unknowingly put on a show in front of the Sun Bum judges, who eventually crowned Ker Porter the winner with a champagne spray celebration and a big fat check. Ker, from Virginia Beach, was in town celebrating his 16th birthday with his mother Nancy. “This money will help buy my first car,” Ker said, ” I’m so glad we found this break and paddled out here!”

Sun Bum’s “Bum Rush Tour” will continue throughout the United States all summer long.
