Moving sale to May boosts Nordstrom

By TIFFANY MONTGOMERY
June 05, 2008 05:34 AM

Nordstrom's decision to move its half-year sale for women and kids to May from June drove a big bump in sales.

May comp sales increased 10.9 percent. June sales will be impacted negatively by the shift. Comps in June are expected to be down 18 to 22 percent.

Year-to-date, total sales are flat compared to last year. The company did not report strong categories or regions today, saying the sale shift would muddy those results. Nordstrom will provide that detail for May and June combined when it reports June sales.
