PacSun records strong sales in February

The action sports industry's largest customer had a good month despite the difficult economy. CEO Sally Frame Kasaks' strategy of focusing on apparel and building the juniors business appears to be paying off.


PacSun same-store sales: Up 6 percent (by comparison, PacSun same-store sales last February fell 7.3 percent)


Strongest week: Week two, when the spring floorset arrived.


Strong regions: All were good except Southern California and the desert Southwest. Florida was flat.


Apparel comps: up 22 percent


Girls apparel comps: Up low 30s, led by tops, Bullhead denim and dresses.


Guys comps: Up low teens, led by tops, denim, shorts and swim.


Accessories: down low double digits


Footwear: down low 30s. (The company is reducing its accessories and footwear business)


Demo
: The company is shuttering this division and began liquidation sales last month. Sales from liquidation totaled $13.6 million in February.
