Footwear and mens apparel hurt Zumiez

Zumiez reported this afternoon that footwear and mens apparel posted negative comp sales in February. Zumiez has 288 stores and is an important customer for action sports companies.
Overall, same-store sales at Zumiez dropped 2.6 percent during the month. The company experienced a decrease in transactions and a lower average unit cost per transaction.
While footwear and mens clothing struggled during February, skate hard goods and boys comped positive, Zumiez said.
Also of note, comp store sales improved as the month progressed. In week one, same-store sales dropped 3.5 percent. In week four, same-store sales declined 1.2 percent.
More retailers report February same-store sales Thursday.
