The hottest brands for holiday

Here are some details from Mitch Kummetz' survey of board sport retailers about holiday sales and trends that came out last week. Mitch is a stock analyst with Robert W. Baird & Co. and his quarterly survey is well read by top executives in the industry.

Hottest men's brands


1. Volcom

2. Billabong

3. Quiksilver

4. Matix

5. KR3W


Biggest change from a year ago: DC moved up the most. KR3W slipped the most.


Hottest women's brands

1. Volcom

2. Roxy

3. Billabong

4. Matix

5. O'Neill


Biggest change from a year ago: No brands moved up very much. Element slipped the most.


Hottest footwear brands

1. Nike

2. UGG

3. DVS

4. Reef

5. Circa


Biggest change from a year ago: UGG moved up the most. Etnies slipped the most.


Hottest sunglass brands

1. Spy

2. VonZipper

3. Electric

4. Hoven

5. Arnette


Biggest change from a year ago: VonZipper moved up the most. Oakley slipped the most.

Unclear trend


Fleece. Some retailers reported fleece sales as a positive trend. Some reported it as negative with the over-all print trend fading.

Mitch surveyed 101 independent surf/skate/snow retailers in 24 states.
