Buckle still going strong despite economy

By TIFFANY MONTGOMERY
August 07, 2008 07:01 AM

I think the only people spending money on a consistent basis are Buckle shoppers.

Somehow, the company is still posting super strong results while nearly every other retailer suffers.

In July, same-store sales rose 20.9 percent. For the second quarter, same store sales increased 27.8 percent. Year to date, same stores sales rose 26.7 percent.

July results

Total men's sales: up 30 percent led by denim, woven and knit shirts and active apparel.

Total women's sales: up 26.5 percent led by denim, knit tops and accessories.

Accessories: up 39 percent

Footwear: up 9 percent

Although July is typically a clearance month for retailers, total markdowns declined at The Buckle compared to last year.

The Buckle opened four stores during the month and now operates 381 stores in 39 states.
