Sport Chalet reports profitable quarter

Industry customer Sport Chalet reported some goods news after having recorded its first profitable quarter in 13 quarters.

 

Here is a summary of Q4 and full year results for the period ended April 3.

 

Q4

Net sales: up 8.8% to $98.2 million, largely due to the extra week in the fiscal year.

 

Same store sales: up 1.3%

 

Gross margin: 29% vs. 27.7% compared to the same period last year.

 

SGA as percentage of sales: 25.4% vs. 24.3%. Part of increase due to increased labor costs, which is helping to drive sales on the floor, the company said.

 

Net income: rose to $0.3 million vs. loss of $0.3 million the same period last year.

 

Full year 

Sales: up 2.5% to $362.5 million. Online sales grew 110%

 

Same store sales: down 0.4%

 

Gross margin: 28.2% vs. 26.8%

 

SG&A as a percentage of sales: 25.6% vs. 24.3%

 

Net loss: $3 million vs. $8.3 million

 

Sport Chalet operates 55 stores in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
