Canadian chain expanding surf and skate

The S3 website.

A large Canadian sporting goods chain is increasing its presence in surf and skate.

The Forzani Group said this week that it will add “S3” shop-in-shops to 22 of its 141 Sport Chek stores this year.

S3 stands for surf, skate and snow.

The company already has six standalone S3 stores in Quebec.

The goal with the shop-in-shops is to add authentic surf and skate brands to Sport Chek’s “category-killer” selection of snowboard brands, Forzani said in its earnings release this week.

The company tested the first S3 shop-in-shop in a Sport Chek store in late 2011.
