The ball, auction and golf tournament, held Thursday, were expected to raise approximately $500,000 for the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association Environmental Fund, which provides grants to 17 environmental groups that protect oceans around the world.

"This industry relies on a healthy ocean," said Billabong North America President Paul Naudé as he introduced this year's honorees at a VIP cocktail reception Friday afternoon before the ball. Honorees included Mark "Occy" Occhilupo, Jackson Browne, Eduardo Arena, Surfrider and Friends of the Foothills.
