We asked Surf Expo Director Roy Turner for comment on the ASR situation and if Surf Expo has any plans to expand.

Here's what he had to say:

"We view the underlying reasons for the business decision made by Nielsen Expositions to be unique to their particular situation. I certainly wish the very best for Andy Tompkins and his team.

"I'd like to reiterate, however, that trade shows consistently return the highest marketing ROI and we will continue to produce events that exceed our clients' expectations.

"Surf Expo is in a growth mode and we are continuing to consider expansion opportunities in the U.S. and overseas.

"Surf Expo's sales and attendance have been on a steady uptick since January 2010. We're on track to surpass our internal goals for the upcoming January 6-8 show.

"Buyers and exhibitors are enthusiastic about Surf Expo. Because of this, we remain extremely optimistic about Surf Expo's continued growth prospects."
