SIMA hosted the 2010 Waterman’s Weekend Underwriting Party Friday night at the Colombatto home, an amazing stone mansion overlooking Cottons in San Clemente.

Billabong North America President Paul Naude spoke about the importance of the mission behind Waterman’s Weekend – to raise money for environmental organizations that protect the oceans – and the heightened significance of the mission given the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Waterman’s Weekend is July 8 and 9. All proceeds benefit 19 ocean environmental groups: Surfrider Foundation, Ocean Institute, WiLDCOAST, Heal the Bay, Orange County CoastKeeper, Surfing Education Association, Alaska Wilderness League, Seymour Marine Discovery Center, Algalita Marine Research Foundation, Save the Waves Coalition, KAHEA, Reef Check, SINADES, Santa Barbara ChannelKeeper, North Shore Community Land Trust, Assateague Coastal Trust, Santa Monica Baykeeper, Ocean Defenders Alliance, and Paso Pacifico.
