Dick's unveils big growth plans

By TIFFANY MONTGOMERY
May 20, 2010 09:56 AM

Dick’s Sporting Goods is aiming to open 800 stores domestically. Currently, the company operates 424 stores.

Dick’s CEO Edward Stack said during the call he was “very pleased” with the results in Southern California. Dick’s entered the Southern California after acquiring Chick’s Sporting Goods and converting those stores to Dick’s.

Dick’s will remodel some former Chick’s stores this year.

Dick’s also expanded in the Northwest in 2009 by securing six large spaces previously filled by the now defunct Joe’s sporting goods chain.

Dick’s sees a “tremendous opportunity” in the Northwest, Stack said yesterday. Currently, Dick’s operates eight stores in that region.
