ZJ Boarding House: What’s selling now

Fall goods have been in stores for awhile now so I thought I'd check in with ZJ Boarding House in Santa Monica to see what is selling well. I also wanted to ask what they liked for spring. I chose ZJ Boarding House because the store is well-regarded and the brands are always excited when the shop picks up their lines.

Here's the mens report from co-owner Mikke Pierson.

Trends: There's been a strong demand for outerwear - including jackets and sweatshirts - that has surprised him. Knit and woven tops are weak.

Hot brands: Billabong is very strong in mens right now. Also, Volcom is solid in mens and womens. Others that are doing well include RVCA, Insight (from Australia), KR3W and O'Quinn.

Here's the women's report from Shelly Bihari, women's, sandals and accessories buyer:

Trends: Hoodies, sweaters and outwear are doing well, as are wide-legged trousers. Also colored denim, including purple, royal blue and maroon.

Brands: Roxy and Billabong are doing well with the wide-legged trousers and Billabong and Element with the colored denim. She said Volcom is selling well also.

What Shelly liked for spring:

The new Reef Girls line - "The fabrications are very nice. They have lots of dresses that are easy to wear and different from everyone else. For their first time out, it was very refreshing."

Billabong Girls - "They consistently looked great the last two years."

Indah - (designed in Bali).
