Several categories comp positive in January at Zumiez

Zumiez reported Wednesday that January same store sales rose 1.8%.

Positive categories included men’s, accessories, and boys. Weak categories were hardgoods, juniors and footwear.

Comp sales by week were:

1. up 5.4%

2. up 0.7%

3. down 1.1%

4. up 2.6%

Overall, the number of transactions rose and the dollar amount per transaction was flat.

Same-store sales rose 5% in the South and 1% in the West and fell 2% in the Northeast and 6% in the Midwest.

For the fourth quarter, same-store sales declined 1.7%.

Zumiez operates 377 stores.
