Vans opens flagship store in China

Beijing, China, PRC (June 30, 2010) - Vans is excited to announce the opening of the first flagship store in China, located at Joy City Mall in Xi Dan, Beijing.

The 300 square meter store features mens and womens footwear, apparel, and accessories, 8 custom feature cases highlighting Vans heritage in skateboarding and surfing, along with iconic brand events and seasonal products.

The most unique features of the store include a skateboarding mini ramp and interactive media area to bring to life Vans brand DNA of action sports, art, music, and street culture.

Vans ChinaThe interactive area is comprised of 4 iMacs and 2 Wiis, where consumers can immediately access Vans.com, Vansblog.com.cn, over 150 Vans videos, podcasts, and download Vans’ 3 iPhone applications- Vans Sk8 Pool Service, Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, and Vans Warped Tour, for the most up to date Vans news and events globally.

The interactive area along with the skateboarding mini ramp aim to deliver a Southern California skateboard/ surf shop vibe, where kids have a cool place to hang out after school or work with friends, can skateboard, and keep connected digitally with their network of friends.

"This flagship store is a milestone for our Brand’s development as we continue to expand our retail footprint in China and Asia Pacific. The first week of sales has been extremely positive,” said Mitchell Whitaker, Regional Director of Vans.

Vans opened its first retail store in China in September 2008, and now has over 160 strategically located stores nationwide.

“We look for the best retail locations where action sports and youth culture exist. Beijing is a hotbed for skateboarding culture, the birthplace of the Chinese punk rock scene; Beijing was a natural fit for our first flagship store,” noted Raymond Wu, China Country Manager.
