U.S. Regional Winners To Compete In Quiksilver ‘King of the Groms’

Global Finals In France This Fall

Huntington Beach, CA (June 7, 2010) – Quiksilver’s ‘King of the Groms’ 2010 U.S. tour will kick off with an east coast regional qualifying event hosted by Disney Orlando’s Typhoon Wave Pool on Wednesday, June 9. Quiksilver King of the Groms is one of the most unique surf competitions in the world, showcasing the best young surf talent, ages 16 and under. Finalists from each of the regional qualifying events held in Brazil, Tahiti, Europe, the U.S. and in other countries throughout the world will move on to compete at the prestigious global final held at the Quiksilver Pro France in late September.

“Every year, Quiksilver looks forward to giving groms all over the U.S. the chance to showcase their talent,” says Matt Kechele, Quiksilver’s East Coast Team and Contest Manager. “In addition, it allows us to bring some of the most talented young surfers we have in our country to the Quiksilver Pro France, where they will compete in a world-class venue with groms from other countries.”

The winner claims the title Quiksilver ‘King of The Groms East Coast,’ plus $1,000 and the opportunity to compete at the Quiksilver King of the Groms Global Finals in France during the Quiksilver Pro France ASP WCT. Past grom winners have included: Gabriel Medina (Brazil, 2009), Maxime Huscenot (2008, Tamaroa McComb (2007, Tahiti)

”Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon hosted the Quiksilver King of the Groms in 2009 when Sebastian Inlet saw a lack of waves,” says Todd Kline, Quiksilver’s U.S. Event Director. “We had such a great response from the competitors, who got guaranteed glassy three-foot surf at the Lagoon, that we are back in 2010!”
