Zumiez May sales beat expectations and outperformed many competitors. To read how other retailers performed, here's a roundup from the Associated Press.

Zumiez May same store sales by week:

1. Up 7.9%

2. Up 9.2%

3. Up 2.3%

4. Up 9.1%

Regions: Same stores sales in all regions rose about 6%. E-commerce comps rose more.

Strong categories: Men's, accessories, boy's

Weak categories: Hardgoods, junior's, footwear

May 2010 same stores sales: up 7.1%

May 2009 same store sales: down 20.7%

Total May 2010 sales: up 12.1% to $26.3 million

No. of average transactions: up in May

Average dollars per transaction: down in May

Same store sales year-to-date: up 8.7%
