Easter shift tempers Zumiez April comps

The Easter shift tempered same store sales at Zumiez in April, though the action sports retailer still reported positive comps.

Same store sales rose 2.1%. Last year, same store sales declined 13.8% during the same period.

The busy pre-Easter shopping week shifted into March this year, which made March sales extra strong and weakened April sales.

Same store sales for March and April combined rose 8.3% vs. a 16.1 fall during March and April last year.

Same store sales by week:

1. down 13.2%

2. up 12.1%

3. up 6.8%

4. up 7%

Comps at stores in the West rose 3%, were flat in the Midwest, fell 3% in the South and dropped 5% in the Northeast.

Positive categories: men’s, accessories

Weak categories: hardgoods, juniors, footwear and boys.
