Executive Edition is a must have
Executive Edition is a must have

Before Shop-Eat-Surf, there were two sites I paid for premium content on. One is Surfline, the other is the Wall Street Journal. One is about all things surf, the other, the best business content site in the world. Shop-eat-surf is the intersection of those two worlds. Shop-Eat-Surf provides everything from coverage of events, people, brands and trends. However, beyond the Executive Edition "wall" is more meaty analysis and interpretation of financial statements, business models and brand philosophies; why certain brands and companies are succeeding, where others aren't. The Executive Edition is a must have read if the business of surf and action sports are on your radar screen.

The Actions Sports Film Series at Newport Beach kicked off with the world premiere of "Cancer to Capricorn: The Path to the Modern Gypsy." Here's a link to a photo slideshow from that premiere.

The Action Sports series also featured the world premiere of "The Westsiders."

Each movie marked the feature directorial debut for Russell Brownley (Cancer to Capricorn) and Josh Pomer (The Westsiders).

In addition to the screenings on Saturday night, other highlights at the ASFS included:

  • The North American premiere of "Somewhere Near Tapachula," Aussie filmmaker Stefan Hunt (Director/Editor/Cinematographer) and Jonne Durrant (Producer/Cinematographer) were at the festival along with the star of the film Pam Skuse.
  • "Fiberglass and Megapixels." directed by Craig Hoffman and Derek Hoffman and "Boardheads directed," by Davo Weiss.
  • Also, for the first time the festival screened a movie in 3-D, "Ultimate Wave Tahiti." Executive Producer Jeff Cutler attended the screening.
The action sports series continues through Thursday. For a schedule of films, times and theaters, click here.
