Professional surfer Mick Fanning was crowned ASP's 2007 World Champion today.
Rip Curl, with U.S. headquarters in Costa Mesa near the airport, is Fanning's main sponsor.
Kelly Gibson, U.S. President and CEO, answered some questions this afternoon about the importance of Fanning's victory to Rip Curl. Rip Curl will host an invite-only party at 4 p.m. to celebrate.
All clothing and apparel, all wetsuits and wetsuit related product, all accessories including backpacks, boardbags, etc, as well as headwear including hats, beanies, etc.
Yes. Athletes drive the action sport market in in the U.S. Winning the ASP World title is surfing's biggest stage. Mick will drive business for Rip Curl in the U.S.
The last Rip Curl world champion was Damien Hardman in 1991.
His world title will be promoted globally through a comprehensive print, in-store, and web advertising campaign. Also, his World Title will receive full coverage in our new movie "Somewhere," as well as a full range of World Title Fanning merchandise and marketing materials.
I should note that Reef, who sponsors Fanning for footwear, also sent out a release. The will create a commemorative Fanning sandal to honor the win.
