Executive Edition is a must have

Before Shop-Eat-Surf, there were two sites I paid for premium content on. One is Surfline, the other is the Wall Street Journal. One is about all things surf, the other, the best business content site in the world. Shop-eat-surf is the intersection of those two worlds. Shop-Eat-Surf provides everything from coverage of events, people, brands and trends. However, beyond the Executive Edition "wall" is more meaty analysis and interpretation of financial statements, business models and brand philosophies; why certain brands and companies are succeeding, where others aren't. The Executive Edition is a must have read if the business of surf and action sports are on your radar screen.

Nordstrom catalog: What brands made it

The Nordstrom holiday catalog landed in mailboxes this week. Only a few surf brands are featured.


It seemed like a small representation given how many local brands are in Nordstrom stores and how aggressively Nordstrom is pursuing the space.


Small by Paul Frank's Julius sweatshirt with removable animal hand puppets got a nice photo. The line is for toddlers sizes 2 to 4.


A whole Quiksilver outfit for boys sizes 4 to 7 is featured, including a jacket, thermal and jeans.


And Aqua VI scored a coup for such a young brand. It has a photo of a T-shirt and thermal for boys sizes 8 to 20.


One surprise: How much play The North Face got, especially in the women's section. The new metallic silver vest with detachable faux fur hood and similar bronze jacket got a two-page spread.
